Layered and complex on the nose, it opens similar to the higher-priced wines from the same producer: notes of wild blackberry and small red fruits are complemented by notes of cooked rhubarb, spice, cedar, and cracked black pepper. The medium-to-full-bodied palate is bold, with mountain-fresh notes of black fruit, raspberry, plums, and Nyons olives, bolstered by hints of garrigue and licorice. The fine-grained, polished tannins and fruity core are well balanced through the long finish of licorice and pepper.
