Just the second vintage from Cliff Lede's valley floor vineyard project, and they already have an excellent bottling. The deep garnet-purple color is reflective of the notes of black currants, cherry kirsch, cigar wrapper and pencil shavings on the nose, supported by notes of lilac, loamy soil, sandalwood, spearmint and suede leather. On the medium-bodied palate, dark fruit notes of red currants, black raspberries, blackberries and black cherry fill the mouth, paired with notes of licorice, new leather, cocoa, espresso and sweet spice all bound with iron wire dusted with graphite. Smooth in texture with a backbone of refreshing acidity, the fruit is restrained yet always present due to the balance struck between the fleshy core and the excellently structured, fine-grained tannins. Notes of chocolate and cassis linger through the otherwise long, savory and peppery finish. Decant and drink now or hold for years to come.
Blend Information: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
