Interestingly, the vines used for this vintage had been struck by hail, which has affected the profile. Crimson in color, with purple edges, the nose is black cherry, fresh-turned earth and an indistinct florality, plus a touch of green tea from the aforementioned hail strike. On the palate, ripe red cherry and strawberry, spicy black pepper and a hint of vanilla from the oak aging. Lively acidity, silky texture and fine-grained tannins lead to a long finish of fruit and spice that promise a good 5-10 years of aging potential at the minimum. We recommend an hour of decanting to allow the wine to fully express all its qualities.
