A deep, opaque purple-black color in the glass, the bouquet reflects it’s appearance well: ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and coffee notes on the nose, with the classic, warm-climate shiraz spice gently laced through as well. The nose is a promise the fruit-forward palate delivers on, with notes of ripe, dark berries interwoven with notes of mocha, licorice, tobacco leaf, black tea and molasses with a surprising transition to redder notes of cherry and raspberry on the mid palate. Silky-smooth in texture, the well-integrated tannins and finely balanced acidity develop a lengthy and warming finish of oolong tea, cinnamon and star-anise.
