The bright, straw-yellow color is further accentuated by the shining golden droplets that run slowly down the side of the glass once swirled, a sure sign of its youthful character as well as its medium-weight body. The nose is expressive, with notes of yellow apples, pears, and diced peaches up front, followed by lime peel and grapefruit. With further time in the glass, slightly saline, mineral notes also make an appearance, due to the volcanic nature of the soil the grapes were grown in. The palate is smooth yet fresh, with zesty notes of citrus fruits supported by notes of honey, raw nuts, and wild fennel, all paired with a subtle smoky note of melted beeswax. The slightly creamy texture (from the lees aging) tapers off at the finish, marking the return of the incredibly saline character of preserved lemons and sea foam paired with smoked herbs.

Visiting the vineyards of Suertes del Marques is like going back in time. The area is Phylloxera free and so the vines are "pie franco" (own-rooted) and extremely old, with some potentially over 200 years! Many of the vines are trained using a unique method to this area called Cordon Trenzado where the vines spread out in long braids of wood (as pictured on the label), some up to 15-20 feet from the mother trunk!
